What is Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana?
Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana (transl. Do attend the wedding) is a 2017 Indian Hindi-language film directed by Ratnaa Sinha, Anubhav Sinha's wife. The film features Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda in lead roles, while K. K. Raina, Alka Amin, Vipin Sharma, Govind Namdev, Navni Parihar, Nayani Dixit, Manoj Pahwa featured in supporting roles. Plot summary
The film begins with Satyendra Mishra (Rajkummar Rao), a clerk in the Excise Department, meeting Aarti Shukla (Kriti Kharbanda), a pretty and intelligent girl, on her parents' persistence who are trying to fix an arranged marriage for her. Aarti finds Satyendra's off-traditional views convenient, while Satyendra is mesmerized by Aarti's beauty and intelligence and as a consequence both of them fall in love with each other and agree to marry.
On the night of marriage, Aarti learns that she has cleared the PCS Exam from her sister Abha, who also informs her that if she marries now her in-laws will not let her pursue the dreams that she has. On her sister's and maternal uncle's provocation Aarti decides to run-away from her house without informing Satyendra or his family, who is surprised by the incident and is left heartbroken. Later her uncle manipulates Satyendra's family to return dowry money some of which they had spent on marriage already and saved remaining for Satyendra's sister's wedding. Due to this, his family goes through a painful time in society.
Five years later, Aarti who is now a PCS Officer is accused of taking a bribe and suspended till her case is resolved. During the investigation Aarti discovers that the officer in charge of her case is none other than Satyendra, who has now become an IAS Officer and who is the District Collector. Aarti discovers that Satyendra has no sympathy for her at all.
Satyendra tries to take revenge from Aarti by humiliating her during the investigation process. He also gets engaged to his childhood friend Radhika. However, he soon realizes that he still loves Aarti and that she is innocent of the corruption charges. He decides to help her clear her name and reunite with her.
However, Aarti misunderstands his intentions and thinks that he wants to take advantage of her situation. She also feels guilty for leaving him on their wedding night and hurting his family. She decides to marry Sharad, an NRI who had proposed to her earlier.
Satyendra tries to stop Aarti from marrying Sharad but fails. He then confronts her uncle who confesses that he was behind the bribery case and that he wanted to ruin Aarti's career because she had rejected his offer of marriage. Satyendra records his confession and exposes him to the media. He also apologizes to Aarti and her family for his behavior.
Aarti realizes that Satyendra still loves her and that he was trying to protect her. She also realizes that Sharad is not the right person for her and that she still loves Satyendra. She breaks off her engagement with Sharad and runs to Satyendra's house. She finds him there with his family and Radhika, who tells her that she has broken off her engagement with him as well because she knows that he loves Aarti.
Aarti and Satyendra hug each other and reconcile. They decide to get married again with the blessings of their families. The film ends with them happily dancing at their wedding.
